Book Review: Untangled: Guiding Teenage Girls Through the Seven Transitions into Adulthood by Lisa Damour, PhD

TOPIC: Parenting, teenagersBy: David BurkeA must read for parents of teenage girls:As a father of two teenage girls I was strongly encouraged to read this book.  At best, teenage girls are loving, caring and tons of fun, at other times, they can be a mysterious collection of emotions and reactions.  This book offers practical suggestions and helpful insights. The author writes in an easy style conceptualizing the experiences of a teenage girl and how caring adults can respond to them.  She provides insights like the transition of independence is like a pool.  A teenage girl is exploring her independence and will move towards the deep end of the pool.  Here she is making new friends and explores her own interests apart from the security of home and parents.  But it’s hard work and she will need to return to the safety of the pool’s edge.  The edge is space where she can engage with interested parents and where she needs their care and security. It’s a helpful look into caring for teenage girls and will generate all kinds of conversations. Link to book: Order Here
